Junior Health and Safety Officer

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Junior Health and Safety Officer to join our dynamic team. Based at our head office in Roodepoort with frequent travel to sites nationwide, this role supports the implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of Health and Safety standards across both office and field operations.
You will assist the HSE department with audits, inspections, training, incident investigation, risk management, and safety file administration.
Duties & Responsibilities
REQUIREMENTS:- Minimum 1+ year experience as an Occupational Health and Safety Officer
- SAMTRAC or equivalent accredited Health and Safety certificate
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel
- Experience in fleet management is advantageous
Legislation & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OHS Act 85 of 1993 and ISO 45001
- Coordinate with internal and external SHE Reps
- Conduct safety audits and site inspections (including subcontractors)
- Assist with incident investigations and compliance reporting
- Identify and evaluate workplace hazards
- Conduct and support risk assessments
- Monitor and report unsafe acts (via NCR system)
- Oversee PPE reviews monthly
- Conduct Health and Safety inductions for new employees and contractors
- Identify and assist with training needs
- Support ongoing safety awareness and improvements
- Compile and maintain digital and physical safety files
- Track and report on Health and Safety KPIs
- Provide general support to the HSE team
- Maintain accurate and timely incident reports
