Maintenance Worker - Parks
About the position
Responsibilities
- Participate in the maintenance and repair of play equipment, picnic tables, fences, and other related parks equipment.
- Maintain and repair tools and small equipment.
- Perform parts runs, as necessary.
- Maintain maintenance records.
- Attend various meetings including employee safety meetings, training sessions, and others, as assigned.
- Participate in City special event setup and teardown.
- Paint buildings, benches, picnic tables, and other park structures.
- Remove graffiti from buildings, benches, picnic tables, and park structures.
- Perform the cleaning and maintenance of parks and facilities.
- Prepare and maintain ball fields.
- Mix and perform weed, pesticide, and fertilizer applications.
- Inspect playgrounds and make necessary repairs.
- Set, monitor, and make recommendations to adjust watering schedules.
- Participate in the maintenance and repair of electrical, plumbing, and irrigation systems and equipment, and maintain timers.
- Mow lawns, trim, and edge around walkways, planters, shrubs, and trees.
- Prune or remove bushes and trees using hand tools and power equipment.
- Utilize equipment such as tractors, loaders, aerators, riding mowers, boom lifts, trenchers, stump grinders, chippers, and various other power and hand tools to complete assigned tasks.
- Hand weed planters, as necessary.
- Safely operate City vehicles and equipment.
- Perform all other duties, as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma OR GED equivalent AND one year of landscape or grounds maintenance and repair operations/field experience, which may also include irrigation systems; OR six (6) months vocational training in landscaping and groundskeeping AND six (6) months of landscape or grounds maintenance and repair operations/field experience, which may also include irrigation systems; OR a certification in landscaping and groundskeeping AND six (6) months of landscape or grounds maintenance and repair operations/field experience, which may also include irrigation systems.
- Must possess a valid California Class \"C\" driver's license upon hire and maintain throughout the length of employment with the City of Victorville.
- May be required to possess a valid California Class \"A\" or \"B\" Commercial Driver's License with endorsements OR have the ability to obtain a class \"A\" or \"B\" Commercial Driver's License within 9 months upon request and maintain it throughout the length of employment.
