Senior Purchasing Manager
Position OverviewThe Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing all procurement activities for construction projects, ensuring materials, equipment, and services are sourced efficiently, cost-effectively, and in alignment with project timelines. This role plays a critical part in vendor management, contract negotiations, and maintaining supply chain continuity to support project execution.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement procurement strategies to support construction projects and company growthSource, evaluate, and select suppliers, subcontractors, and vendorsNegotiate pricing, contracts, and terms to optimize cost savings and qualityManage purchasing budgets and track expenditures across multiple projectsCollaborate with project managers, estimators, and engineering teams to forecast material needsIssue purchase orders and ensure timely delivery of materials and equipmentMonitor supplier performance and resolve any issues related to delays, quality, or cost overrunsMaintain strong relationships with vendors and identify new sourcing opportunitiesEnsure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirementsAnalyze market trends, pricing, and supply risks to make informed purchasing decisionsMaintain accurate procurement records, contracts, and documentationLead and mentor purchasing/procurement staff (if applicable)QualificationsBachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Construction Management, or related field5+ years of procurement or purchasing experience, preferably in construction or a related industryStrong knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and subcontracting processesProven experience negotiating contracts and managing vendor relationshipsExperience with ERP or procurement systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Procore, etc.)Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication and negotiation abilitiesAbility to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environmentPreferred QualificationsCPM (Certified Purchasing Manager) or CPSM certificationExperience working with large-scale commercial or industrial construction projectsFamiliarity with cost estimation and project budgeting
